This edition of the Never Go Back workbook series begins with the following thought:
"Once you get that it truly is impossible to please everyone, you begin to live purposefully. You begin to play offense. You start spending your time and energy on things that bring meaningful results, rather than on the impossible goal of making everyone else happy."
Playing defense is not going to help you move forward. Focusing on impossible goals is not going to help you move forward.
In your personal life as well as your professional life, you need to make decisions based on what's best. Focusing on being liked by all and pleasing everyone doesn't take into account the fact that people have different agendas, tastes, interests, beliefs and experiences -- all of that is out of your control.
What is in your control is to make the best decisions based on what is best. That's how you get meaningful results. Don't let others control you with their personal interests. Take criticism and feedback in stride, and if it's helpful, you can put it to use, but make sure that the decisions you're making are internally motivated.
